Arts & Crafts

Bantham copyright Neil HoldenThe West Country has been famed for its arts and crafts traditions for hundreds of years. With such inspirational landscapes it's no surprise that today South Devon has a great wealth of artists and crafts people working to produce a wonderful array of exhibitions and pieces for sale in our art galleries.

Whether you're following the Arts & Crafts tradition of only filling your home with things that are beautiful, useful or both like handmade glassware or pottery, or looking for just the thing for that space on your wall, a sculpture for your home or garden, or a bespoke piece of jewellery, south Devon artisans will have something you'll want to take home! During the annual open studio festival in September you can get up close to the creative process by visiting artists in their place of work.

Their relevance today can be seen in the turn out that heritage courses teaching these skills enjoy, and the well maintained traditional aspects of our towns, villages and landscape.
