Dartmouth Comedy Festival

Come and laugh your socks off at Dartmouth’s 6th annual comedy festival at The Flavel from March 6th to 10th with quite simply an array of stars from the comedy world including Jenny Eclair, Mark Steel, Matt Harvey, Phil Kay, Ali Cook, Miles Jupp, Slightly Fat Features and the much-anticipated mystery guest courtesy of festival patron Peter Richardson.

Mark Steel opens the Festival on Tuesday 6th March with his show ‘In Town’ based on his award-winning BBC Radio 4 series and is a celebration of the quirks of small town life – so very apt for Dartmouth! Much secrecy as ever surrounds the ever-popular Mystery Guest Comedy Film Night courtesy of festival patron, Peter Richardson on Wednesday 7th March - previous mystery guests have included Eddie Izzard, Harry Enfield, and Keith Allen – even we wont know until the night – so join us for a superb surprise!

Thursday 8th March sees two big names in two different venues - Jenny Eclair will be thrilling the Flavel audience with her Old Dog, New Trick tour - Jenny is now fifty years old which in dog years would qualify for The Guinness Book of Records, having recently been de-wormed and with her teeth newly bleached, she’s basically doing her comedy tricks for a ‘nice biscuit and maybe a glass of Chardonnay’! Totnes comedy hero Matt Harvey is returning to Café Alf Resco where you can enjoy a rustic supper before listening to the musings of this nationally-acclaimed hilarious poet.

On the menu for Friday 9th March is Comedy and Curry night at the Royal Castle Hotel with multi-award winning Scotsman Phil Kay who describes himself as being in his natural environment up close in a room with a crowd. A show for those who like their comedy freestyle, unpredictable and effervescent! Meanwhile, at the Flavel on Friday, we have the return of the wonderful Slightly Fat Features whose ‘Comedy by the Sea’ is a unique mix of circus tricks, original live music, magical moments and general spontaneous madness, which last year had the audience shouting for more!

Complete silliness for all the family is promised on Saturday 10th March in the afternoon as Gimmeyourleftshoe perform twice at the Flavel. All kids give up their left shoe, then have to come up with a funny skit to win it back using all the props lying around – also everyone brings an odd item from home too that they don’t mind losing!

Our final night on Saturday 11th sees the return to the Flavel of Edinburgh fringe favourite
Ali Cook with his own brand of awe-inspiring magic and offbeat comedy. Expect to be genuinely amazed by anarchic illusions as Ali draws you into a surreal world of disappearing goldfish, razorblades and shoes!

Our late headline act for Saturday night is award-winning comedian and actor Miles Jupp with his show ‘Fibber in the Heat’. Allegedly disillusioned with comedy, Miles attempts to become a cricket commentator trying the ill thought out and dishonest method of pretending to be one and telling some whopping fibs to get on a cricket tour to India. It wasn’t as easy as he thought!
