A National Trust garden held on the edge of the wildness, renowned for rare half-hardy trees and shrubs, underplanted by native wild flowers. Devon's best kept secret.

The surrounding estate has many walks which give stunning views over the estuary. Links with Dart Valley Trail, Galmpton village walk and John Musgrave Heritage Trail.

Travel by river to enjoy this peaceful haven. Regular boats from Dartmouth – Greenway Quay and ferry services, tel – 01803 844010. National Trust shop, licensed café and barn gallery. New for 2006 – Opening of the restored vinery.

Come to Greenway, Agatha Christie’s garden, by river! Ferries from Dartmouth, Brixham and Torquay land at Greenway Quay. Garden of exceptional beauty with an atmosphere of romantic wilderness and mystery. Wonderful position with breathtaking views and glimpses of the wooded Dart estuary.

Greenway House is undergoing major restoration, and opening to the public in spring 2009, but you can visit the conservator’s workshop to see what’s happening, and the exhibition on ‘Greenway, Another Chapter’

Greenway Garden, including the shop, cafe, Barn Gallery and conservator's store, will be open every Wednesday - Sunday inclusive from 1st March to 26th October.

Road Directions

Nearest major road is A3022. Turn into Galmpton and follow signs for Greenway Quay & passenger ferry.

There is limited parking at Greenway, to reduce car impact on the local village. Whenever possible travel by 'green ways': regular ferries from Dartmouth and Dittisham (phone 01803 844010); on foot Greenway Walk from Brixham or Village Walk from Galmpton Mini-coaches (max 25 seats) must pre-book by phone 01803 842382.

Public Transport Directions

Reduced admission for visitors who travelled using public transport - see ticket information.
Nearest station is Paignton 4 1/2 miles, Churston (Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway) 2 miles.
Bus - Stagecoach 12, Paignton to Brixham, alight at Churston.

Ferry: enjoy a cruise on the River Dart from Dartmouth (use Dartmouth Park & Ride, bus service every 15 mins, allow at least 4 hrs parking) and Dittisham. Sea/river link from Torquay and Brixham.Tel. Greenway Quay & ferry services (licensed operators to the NT) 01803 844010, www.greenwayferry.co.uk and www.rivierabelle.co.uk. NB steep walk from quay up to garden; allow 11/2 hrs to visit garden.
