Press Gang, the collective of printmakers based at Salcombe Art Club, celebrate ten years of printmaking with their annual summer exhibition at Harbour House in Kingsbridge.

This year's show runs from Tuesday 24 June until Sunday 6 July 2008, and there will be several opportunities for the public to attend demonstrations of printmaking in the gallery.

Although the printmaking techniques used by the group are traditional, the approach is often experimental, and the results are highly refined - and a far cry from the early days when, equipped with nothing more than a newly converted mangle from a farm sale, and a willingness to try something new, the artists embarked upon their journey of creative discovery under the guidance of local artist Mike Glanville.

Later an etching press was added, and the group has continued to flourish, attracting new members, and introducing printmaking to a new local audience.

On Saturday 5 July, Mike Glanville will give a demonstration of printmaking at 11am, showing how with each inking and printing of a handmade plate, an original work of art is created. On Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 June, demonstrations can be requested at any time.

At all other times, one of the thirteen printmakers will be in the gallery and will be happy to talk about their work or techniques, which include lino and wood cuts, drypoints, etchings and collagraphs, and monoprints and monotypes.

Through the autumn and winter months, the printmaking group meets at Salcombe Art Club each week to develop individual and group projects in a mutually supportive and creative environment. When the Loft Studio is transformed for the Art Club's summer exhibition, the artists continue to gather and work in each others' studios or gardens, or organise outings to places of interest to draw, paint and sometimes even print in the open air on a small, portable etching press. As a result, the spirit of the group permeates this annual exhibition of members' work, linking the work through more than technique alone.

The annual Press Gang summer exhibition of printmaking opens at Harbour House in Kingsbridge on Tuesday 24 June. Opening times are 10am - 5pm daily, until the close of the show on Sunday 6 July.

Mike Glanville will give a demonstration of printmaking at 11am on Saturday 5 July, and demonstrations will be given on request at any time on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 June. Admission is free.
