Shaldon Regatta was started in 1817 and is the oldest of its kind in Britain. What started as a test of boating skills between local working boatmen of all types has turned into an event to include all the family and Grockles (holiday makers). In fact many such grockle family return year after year then their children grow up and bring their children! Many families have bought holiday cottages here and some have even retired here all because of a fun packed week at Shaldon Regatta.
