South Devon in Focus....and More

Harbour House in Kingsbridge is the venue for the annual summer exhibition of photography by Tim Stanger and Mick Allen, celebrating the famous beauty of the whole of the South Devon region. This year's exhibition is titled South Devon in Focus... and more, now that professional photographer Tim Stanger has relocated to the picturesque Quantock Hills in Somerset.

The exhibition includes a wide range of local subjects, from Mick's vast panoramic land and seascapes to Tim's close-up, almost abstract, studies with a contemporary feel.

More traditional tastes are catered for too, and Tim Stanger's work is already familiar to many of us: his images have been much used in recent years to promote the holiday industry in the South West, in council literature, and as postcards bought in the West Country and mailed worldwide. From his new home in the Quantock Hills in Somerset, he is busy exploring new vistas, and is increasingly interested in developing views of texture and form within the intimate landscape.

Tim will explain more about his work in a gallery talk at 11am on Saturday 23 August. Everybody is welcome to this informal event, there's no need to book, and admission is free.

Mick Allen, in contrast, looks for the wider view and continues to manipulate modern technology in order to capture his panoramic landscapes, his current method of choice being to send his remote controlled camera up a 30' mast. Back in the studio, he combines 3 rows of up to 20 separate images to create a vast, printed image with precise detail. He explains, "My approach to the local landscape is to use the panoramic format to the full," and his larger pieces reach 10' in width.

Sue Stanger who, with her husband Tim, ran their photographic library and card and calendar business, will also show work in this exhibition.

Photographs are available framed, unframed, or printed onto canvas, with panoramic images up to 10' in width.

South Devon in Focus... and more opens at Harbour House in Kingsbridge on Tuesday 19 August. Opening times are 10am - 5pm daily, until the close of the show on Sunday 31 August. Tim Stanger LRPS will give an informal gallery talk at 11am on Saturday 23 August. Admission is free.
