Home / Events, Festivals and Attractions in Devon - Visit South Devon / Westcountry Storytelling Festival 2008
This will be our 6th Storytelling festival, when the rolling Westcountry hills echo with the oral tradition of tales, fables, music and poetry.
The three day festival celebrates the ancient art of telling stories with some of the world’s best performers of the oral tradition. Our extensive programme has appeal for all ages; from the ingenious children’s area to late night fireside tales, from the wonder of poetic myths to wild cabaret sessions.
In a time when so many stories come through media technology, our purpose is to bring alive the magic and presence of the spoken word. As a custom it connects us to a time before books and reading. Many children love the immediacy of a ‘telling story’ - we aim to give everyone this enchanting and powerful experience.
Our programme runs from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening.
As you wander around the relaxed and friendly festival site, you’ll be able to listen to performances in our fabulous yurt based structures, created by festival co-founder Toby Fairlove.
There will be a market area to browse through, cafes with fine food, plus the legendary Traveller’s Rest Bar. In addition Dartington Hall gives us access to some beautiful performance venues, plus food and drink at the White Hart.
The festival conjures up a great mix of a safe, family friendly event with creative revelry. We use minimal amplified sound, but that doesn’t mean that we hold back from having boisterous fun.
