A romantic ruined English Heritage castle set in a picturesque Devon valley. The Gatehouse and curtain wall date from the late 15 Century and behind are the remains of an Elizabethan country house built c.1560-1600 by the Seymour family. Edward Seymour, first duke of Somerset and uncle to Edward VI acquired the castle in 1547. Reputed to be one of the most haunted castles in England.
