The Royal Castle is an award winning world famous riverside hotel perfectly located in the heart of Dartmouth. Originally a 17th century coaching inn, parts of the hotel date back to the Elizabethan period and the times of Sir Francis Drake.

The Royal Castle combines enchanting, traditional character with comprehensive modern comfort. There is a choice of 25 non-smoking luxury bedrooms, many with river views, four-poster beds and spa baths. All bedrooms have ensuite facilities, WI-FI Internet access, telephones, and hospitality trays, colour TV, hairdryers and complimentary guest parking.

Residents can choose to dine in either our river view restaurant situated on the first floor or in our two character bars. The Galleon Bar is very traditional and the Harbour Bar more cosmopolitan. Both bars serve an excellent choice of world-renowned brands and local specialities and are very popular with locals and residents. Log fires and Spit Roasts are special features in the cooler months.

The Royal Castle is open all year and offers residents the opportunity to enjoy the many different events taking place in Dartmouth, including annual Music and Food Festivals, Dartmouth Royal Regatta, Murder & Mystery Nights and our very popular residential Christmas and New Year programmes.

Road Directions

Approximately 19 miles along the A38 take the A384 signposted to Totnes. At the Dartington roundabout turn left to Totnes. At the next major set of traffic lights turn right following signs to Dartmouth - a distance of approximately 12 miles. On reaching Dartmouth follow signs for the town centre, continuing along the main road into the town with the river on your left. At the station restaurant turn right into the one-way system and the Royal Castle Hotel will be seen on your right. Please pull up safely and come into the hotel and we will arrange parking for you.
