Looking to escape the routines of everyday life? Camping in South Devon is an affordable and fun way to get away from it all and enjoy the countryside, coastal path walks and beaches that make this one of the most pleasant parts of England.
South Devon could have been made specifically for camping. It offers the best of coast and countryside, with many areas designated as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are loads of popular campsites across the region, so you can immerse yourself in the local environment and still be close to all the attractions, beaches and facilities for a perfect family holiday.
Variations on the Theme
Camping in South Devon isn’t just plotting up in a small field with scant facilities. They can range from the traditional pitch to holiday parks that cater for the entire family to caravan grounds with campsites set nearby. There are also variations on the theme, with Yurt holidays gaining in popularity. All the campsites have excellent facilities, a friendly, warm welcome and can be as near or as far from civilisation as you like.
Woodlands Grove near Dartmouth is a prime example of the best in South Devon camping. Laid out in terraces with glorious views across magnificent countryside, it has every luxury the modern camper wants. This is no ordinary campsite either, as Woodlands has won a cabinet full of major awards including ‘Best Family Campsite in Europe’ (Alan Rogers) and ‘AA Campsite of the Year’ twice. Enjoy England has awarded the site five stars, and caravanners voted the site into Practical Caravan Top 100 Sites for 2010.
If you’re looking for a more traditional camping experience try Leadstone Camping, set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with seven acres of camping pitches. If you’re a water baby then the excellent Dawlish beaches are just a couple of kilometres away and there is a great pub nearby serving hearty home-cooked food. Lovers of peace and quiet should note that there’s a NO NOISE after 11pm rule.
