Tavistock Camping and Caravanning Club Site
This open all year Club Site, lies on the west side of Dartmoor National Park and enjoys fabulous views over the moor.
You can leave the car behind and explore the moorland paths, lanes and rivers on foot. The National Park has a beautiful moorland landscape with wood valleys and tors (this is a group of rocks and to many people they give one of the most characteristic features of the moor). A great way to discover the moors beauty is for families to try ‘letterboxing’ – a form of orienteering and horse-riding that is available from the award-winning Cholwell Riding Stables. There are more natural attractions nearby, including Lydford Gorge which is the deepest gorge in south west England, stretching a mile and a half from the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool to the 100ft White Lady Waterfall. Outdoor enthusiasts can also enjoy the Granite Way; a spectacular 11-miles cycle and walk way from Oakhampton to Lydford. Tavistock town hosts a daily Pannier Market selling local food, plants and many collectors’ items. The towns and cities of Plymouth, Barnstaple and Exeter are also accessible by car or bus. If you fancy learning about Sir Francis Drake, then a visit to his home of Buckland Abbey is a must and is one of several National Trust properties in the area.
