South Devon is sprinkled with stunning tors, rugged cliff faces and lush hillsides – all of which promise the possibility of wide reaching views of this wonderful part of Devon.

There are many different vistas to choose from and real joy to be had from discovering a view as you reach the precipice on a walk, cycle or drive.   To follow are a selection of the best view points in the region for you to explore.

Start Point

Start Point is located on the most southerly tip of Devon and is a great location to spot seals, dolphins and other seaside wildlife. Views of the stunning coast line will wow you, and you can enjoy watching boats sail by or make a visit to the Lighthouse.

Sharp Tor, Salcombe

A challenging walk along the South West Coast Path between Salcombe and Bolts Head takes you through Sharp Tor, where you are rewarded with spectacular views along the estuary to Salcombe.

Hound Tor

Granite tors are the defining feature of Dartmoor, and Hound Tor is a fantastic example of them. A climb to the top promises you astounding views of Dartmoor and beyond to the coast.

Jubilee Gardens, Beer

Jubilee Gardens at the top of the headland in Beer is a great location for a picnic. Enjoy stunning views of the shingle beach and picturesque village below.

Haldon Forest

Take the circular Butterfly Walk trail at Haldon Forest Park and enjoy stunning views across the Teign Valley and forest.

Marine Drive, Bigbury on Sea

Of course the view across from the Beach to Burgh Island is phenomenal year round.  But why not take a seat on one of the benches located along Marine Drive and view both the beach and Island from above.

Woodbury Castle – View of the Exe Estuary

A prehistoric hill fort which is located 175m above Sea Level, a walk to Woodbury Castle promises panoramic views across the surrounding countryside and the Exe Estuary.

Mamhead Obelisk

Take a walk through Mamhead Woods to the site of the obelisk, built in 1742 to be visible to mariners. It is sited at a point offering widespread views across to Exmouth, Topsham and along to Exeter.

Sheeps Tor – View of Burrator Reservoir

Climb to the top of Sheeps Tor to view the tranquil waters and surrounding woods of Burrator Reservoir, situated within the contrasting moorland that surrounds the lake. 

Smeatons Tower, The Hoe, Plymouth

Climb to the lantern room of this famous tower located on The Hoe in Plymouth and enjoy fantastic views of this historical marine town.
