West Devon Way - Stage 3 - Lydford to Mary Tavy West Devon Way - Stage 3 - Lydford to Mary Vary - 4.5 miles This stage follows a road south of Lydford, tracks over open moorland, before rejoining a road again into Mary Tavy. There are impressive views of Brentor Church from much of the stage. There is only one gate on this stage, and the surface is generally good, with some uneven tracks over the open moorland. Gradients are generally gradual. Side trips can be taken to Lydford Gorge, and to Brentor Church from this stage. WP1 Start in centre of Lydford. Leave the village in a southerly direction towards Tavistock, past the medieval prison and courtroom (Lydford Catle) and the church. Dot Waypoints Lydford Castle(3).JPG WP2 Keep to the road for approximately one mile, then take the track on the left immediately before the bridge with metal parapets. Turn right, next to the fence, and follow the most obvious track as in continues roughly parallel to the fence, then alongside a stone wall, then ahead to a clearer path. This in turn leads to a surfaced lane. Dot Waypoints P1010246.JPG WP4 Continue ahead on the lane for 150m and where a track goes off to the right, leave the lane on a path that bears left over the moorland, going gently uphill.
