Throwleigh Cycle Route - 18 miles Throwleigh Cycle Route - 18 miles This route ventures into northern Dartmoor, passing through the Dartmoor villagee of Throwleigh, South Zeal, Sticklepath and Belstone. The route can be extended by following the Drogo and Chagford extension for those who wish to follow a longer and more challenging route. This route is quite hilly in parts, and follows a Bridleway at the start and end of the route. Dot Waypoints WP2 Almost immediately, turn right down a Bridlepath. This path is signed 'Farther Ford.' Dot Waypoints WP3 Follow this path through a few gates until you reach the Railway and Dual Carriageway bridges. Towards the end of the path it is very rocky, and you are recommended to walk with your bike here. Walk under the viaduct, over the footbridge across the river, then back under the viaduct. Dot Waypoints WP4 Follow the path through the gate and past a house on your left. The path turns into a lane here, follow up to the junction. Dot Waypoints WP5 This takes you up to the B3260 main road. Turn righ onto this road (fast traffic) and take the next left (just past Mole Avon). Dot Waypoints WP6 Follow this lane down to the T-junction, turn right (signed Belstone). Dot Waypoints WP7 Follow the lane to the cross roads. Follow straight on, signed Sampford Courtenay. Dot Waypoints WP8 Take the next right turn, signed Taw Green. Dot Waypoints WP9 Follow this lane until the sharp right hand bend, then continue straight on over the A30, towards Sticklepath. The village is home to the Finch Foundry - three water wheels remain in working order at this National Trust property which is open to the public. Dot Waypoints WP11 Pass through Sticklepath then take the lane on the left, signed to South Zeal. Continue straight over the cross roads down through South Zeal. Dot Waypoints WP12 As the road starts to rise again take the right hand lane (no sign) and follow up (keep to the left) and across the old A30. Dot Waypoints WP13 Just past the old A30 take the right hand T-junction. The land climbs up towards the Moor, follow through to Throwleigh. From here you can extend the road by follow the Castle Drogo and Chagford Extension, or alternatively continue along this route back towards Okehampton). Dot Waypoints WP20 Continue for about a mile to Sticklepath, then take the left turn signed to Skaigh. Dot Waypoints WP21 Follow this lane through to Belstone, then continue through the village, take the right hand lane for a long descent towards the A30. Dot Waypoints WP22 Take the left at the fork past Eastlake. Dot Waypoints WP23 After passing under the A30, turn left along a bridleway along which you travelled in the opposite direction at the start of the route. Dot Waypoints WP24 At the end of the bridleway turn left to reach Okehampton Station and the end of the route. Dot Waypoints
