Horse-riding

South Devon riding

Horse RidingSouth Devon has superb facilities for anyone with equestrian interests. Dartmoor in particular is wonderful for a relaxing hack, but there's plenty of other beautiful areas with equestrian facilities, not counting the hundreds of miles of ancient bridleways that weave through glorious South Devon countryside. If you want to spice up your countryside rides with village life, try the increasingly popular pub rides offered by many of the trekking centres.

If you relish competitive riding there are two premier Racecourses - at Exeter and Newton Abbot, both of which have full programmes every year. Near the Exeter course is Haldon Forest - another top favourite for riders, with a large area set aside for equestrian activities including parking for horse boxes.

For enthusiasts, brushing up on eventing or show jumping skills is also an option in many of the riding schools.

Whatever your level of expertise there are facilities to match. Click here to find a list of equestrian centres.

Useful sites are Discover Dartmoor and Haldon Forest Park, or call into local tourist information centres.
