Craft Festival is a popular, vibrant event that bursts with creativity and draws visitors from near and far, with many travelling from across them UK to visit Bovey Tracey and the surrounding area each June.

Over 21 years not-for-profit Craft Festival has drawn over 160,000 visitors to Bovey Tracey, and independent research reports that is has contributed at least £25 million to the local economy. Over 4000 independent craft businesses have exhibited, and 500 start-ups supported over the years.

Meet the makers at Craft Festival

For this year’s event, 200 maker businesses have been selected by an independent panel to exhibit for the 21st Anniversary show and include some of the most accomplished professional crafts people from across Britain – including many local makers from Devon.

Get involved – join a workshop

Participation is a key part of Craft Festival with a wealth of craft workshops available for adults to join, all under the expert tutorage of accomplished professional makers. Two-hour paid workshops are available but places are limited so early booking is essential. Visit the event website for full details, current availability and to book.

It’s a real family affair

Encouraging children and young people to experiment with a craft has always been a key part of the event. In partnership with local schools, Craft Festival has welcomed over 15,000 local pupils over the years. This year Craft Festival will again host an action-packed programme of free children’s craft activities. The buzz of the children’s craft tent is a joyous place to see and hear, and even more fun when you join in.

Local makers from the South West take centre stage

Local professional makers selected to exhibit this year include accomplished woodworker Ambrose Vevers from Newton Abbott, jeweller Helen Brice from near Totnes, RAMP ceramics from Silverton and new start-up business Beth Osment Textiles from Exeter. Makers are also travelling to Bovey from right across the UK to exhibit and will include Morag Macpherson Textiles from Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland, brush maker Rosa Harradine from Carmarthen in west Wales, Charmain Harris a jeweller from Bude in Cornwall, Anne Barrell Ceramics from Eastbourne and Harriet Eccleston a maker of handmade garments from Sheffield and many more.

Other Festival features include a vintage cinema, traditional children’s entertainment, storytelling and street theatre, yoga, live music by local artists and a selection of delicious local street food offerings.
