Some holidays end with a sigh of relief that you’re finally heading home. Others end with everyone in the car already asking when you can come back. Our stay at Cofton Holidays firmly belonged to the second kind.

Tucked into a scenic valley near Dawlish on the South Devon coast, Cofton gave us the rare combination of genuine relaxation for the grown-ups and non-stop adventure for the kids. By the time we packed up, returning wasn’t a question of if, but when.

Here’s why Cofton has earned a permanent place on our family holiday list.

A Home Away From Home

The first thing that won us over was the accommodation. We stayed in one of Cofton’s beautifully converted holiday cottages, and the moment we stepped inside, it felt less like a rental and more like a proper retreat. The open-plan kitchen meant we could cook together, the family dining area gave us somewhere to actually sit down as a group, and the private outdoor space became our evening hideaway once the children were asleep.

There’s a lovely balance here between rustic charm and modern comfort. The cottage had character without sacrificing any of the conveniences you want on holiday. After busy days out, having a spacious, peaceful base to come back to made all the difference.

Something for Every Age

If you have children, you’ll know the challenge of keeping different ages entertained at the same time. Cofton Holiday Park handled this effortlessly. The heated indoor pool, complete with water jets and a splash pad, was an instant hit with the little ones, while the outdoor pool was perfect for sunnier afternoons.

Beyond the water, there was always something to do. The adventure playgrounds wore the kids out beautifully, the arcade games provided a fun rainy-day backup, and the woodland trail gave us a gentle way to explore the surroundings together. We even hired bikes one morning and spent hours pedalling around. With regular entertainment laid on too, there was never a moment of “I’m bored.”

Time to Relax, Too

What surprised us most was how restful the trip felt for us as parents. While the children burned off energy, we managed to actually unwind. The sauna and steam room offered a proper bit of escape, and a quiet drink at the on-site Swan Pub became a small daily ritual we looked forward to. It’s rare to find a family holiday that leaves the adults feeling recharged rather than worn out, but Cofton managed exactly that.

The Perfect Spot for Exploring

Cofton’s location is hard to beat. We were only a short distance from some gorgeous beaches, and days out in Exmouth were quick and easy. For the more energetic among us, the South West Coast Path was right on the doorstep, offering some of the finest coastal walks in the country. Having so much within easy reach meant we could mix lively park days with proper Devon adventures, all without long drives eating into our time.

Worth Coming Back For

Looking back, what made Cofton special wasn’t any single feature, but the way everything came together. The comfortable cottage, the brilliant facilities, the beautiful setting, and the genuine sense that this is a place built with families in mind. We arrived hoping for a nice break and left with the kind of memories that have the children already planning next year’s trip.

Some places you visit once and tick off the list. Cofton Holidays is the kind of place you return to again and again, and that’s exactly what we intend to do.
