Devon Open Studios- NEW VENUE on the Edge of the Teign
Organised by Devon Artist Network, the Devon Open Studios is an annual event taking place in September celebrating the flair and talent of artists who live and work in our beautiful county. The two week-long event connects artists to enthusiasts in a FREE showcase for the arts. This year, 250 artists are taking part at 136 venues across the county and Combeinteignhead is hosting one at a new venue…
At Venue 100, The Edge of the Teign is a collective of six makers who will be working at The Pavilion in Hearn Field, TQ12 4RR every Thursday to Sunday from 7th until 22nd September. Showcasing a diverse and exciting mix of art and crafts, the space will be buzzing with creativity as they demonstrate their methods and skills, as well as offering a selection of 'have a go' activities on most days.
Making up Edge of the Teign are Angela Bennett, a potter who is well known for her polka dot ceramics whilst Charlotte Bouchard, Silversmith creates 'timeless treasures inspired by the past'. Local Blacksmith, James Deane, will be setting up his mobile forge and demonstrating his traditional craft but on a somewhat larger scale than Charlotte's jewellery! Working in 2D will be Niamh Geraghty-Morris and Cara Roxanne. Niamh creates prints that reflect the raw beauty of nature whilst Cara, as a painter and illustrator, creates paintings, prints and cards inspired by dreams, myths, memories and nostalgia. The sixth member is Pippa Ridley who's fused glass is both decorative and practical with sea horses being a recurring theme.
The Hearn Field was gifted 'for the benefit and enjoyment of the local community' by W G Hearn in 1983 and the Committee kindly offered to host the event in order to promote the wealth of creative talent in and around the local area. Refreshments and homemade cakes will be served from the recently refurbished Wood Shed servery to raise funds for the facility. The field itself is a beautiful spot with wonderful views of the estuary and surrounding countryside as well as being home to much wildlife and nature.
Parking is available and (well-behaved art appreciating!) dogs are also welcome.
