As January is a key time to start thinking about where you’ll go on holiday, we wanted to provide you with some guidance on the best places to stay based on the type of holiday you are looking to book.

Under 12’s Family Holiday

Dawlish and Dawlish Warren

Offering lots of holiday parks, B&B accommodation and Self Catering properties, Dawlish and the Warren are a fantastic choose when planning a family holiday with young children.  With two large beaches and a few smaller ones to choose from, as well as traditional amusements there is plenty to entertain the young ones.  Both Dawlish and Dawlish Warren are home to a variety of places to eat as well.  

Seaton

Seaton is a wonderful town for families, being a natural playground with fantastic trails to explore, a swimming pool and water sport activities launching from the beach.  There are lots of family attractions within Seaton and nearby including the brand new Jurassic themed play park at the Underfleet, a must for kids, and the Seaton Tramway, whose narrow gauge heritage trams run through miles of unspoilt countryside.

Families with Older Children

Exeter

By choosing to stay either in Exeter or in one of the stunning locations nearby you are gaining access to an historical town with plenty of shopping to enjoy, as well as tours and attractions that appeal to all ages. With many family friendly eateries to choose from as well as water activities to take part in right in the town, there is plenty to fill your break in South Devon.

Teignmouth

Teignmouth is known as a traditional seaside town.  With a fantastic pier with amusements, crazy golf and a skate park in the town there is plenty to appeal to those entertainment craving teens in your family. Teignmouth has a packed calendar of events throughout the year and its large grass area in the centre of the town is often home to touring fairs, musical events and sporting competitions, adding to the fun that can be had in this wonderful town.

Romantic Getaway

Ashburton

Located on the edges of beautiful Dartmoor Ashburton is a fantastic choice for those looking for a quiet, peaceful weekend in South Devon.  There are many antique shops, art galleries and book shops to explore during the day and a great variety of eateries to choose from in the evenings.  Stunning walks on Dartmoor are a must as well.

Totnes

A unique market town Totnes offers much to explore and do. The town has a fascinating history, including a castle.  While away the hours in independent shops, cafes and restaurants.  There’s even the opportunity to catch a ride on a steam train or aboard a paddle steamer to explore further afield.

Leisurely Break

Dartmouth

Choose to spend your holiday in Dartmouth and you will spend your break in a fantastic attractive, riverside location.  With stunning beaches nearby, plenty of shops and galleries to delve into along the cobbled streets of the town, and the opportunity to get on the water you are promised a leisurely, relaxing break in Dartmouth. 

Sidmouth

Sidmouth is a beautiful town with stunning coastal views.  It has a timeless feel which makes it a relaxing place to choose to spend your holiday.  A leisurely stroll around the independent boutiques and shops or along the South West Coastal Path to Ladram Bay or picturesque Branscombe promises you a break from it all.

Active Holiday

Exmouth

Exmouth has a unique location. Situated on a sheltered estuary and rugged coastline means the town is a wonderful base for those interested in kite surfing, windsurfing and other water based sports. With two miles of stunning beach, as well as the town, Exmouth makes for a wonderful South Devon holiday.

Salcombe

A stay in Salcombe would not be complete without getting out onto the water.  Renowned as a sailing destination the Salcombe estuary is edged with stunning beaches.  Once you’ve tired yourself out on the water the town also offers wonderful places to eat and drink, as well as a bit of retail therapy of course in the town’s shops.
