Guest Blog Post - Budleigh Music Festival

Returning to the picturesque East Devon town of Budleigh Salterton this summer, from 9th - 17th July, is the renowned Budleigh Music Festival. Sporting an impressive programme of talent, with exciting lunchtime and evening concerts and talks to attend in St. Peter’s Church, classical music fans will be spoilt for choice.

Tickets are now on sale and here’s a taste of what you can expect at the Festival this year:

After wowing at the Last Night of the Proms in 2019, Budleigh Music Festival welcomes back internationally acclaimed saxophonist Jess Gillam with her own group – The Jess Gillam Ensemble. Jess’s infectious music making is now becoming legendary and her performance promises to be full of colour, energy and tranquility in equal measure.

Equally unmissable is the legendary Sir Willard White – one of the world’s greatest baritones. Budleigh Music Festival is delighted to welcome Sir Willard to the festival for the first time for two intimate recitals of international merit. His extraordinary voice is acclaimed globally and his concerts famously unforgettable. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to hear this legendary voice live.

Laurel and Hardy fans unite - successful TV presenter and one of Britain’s finest (and possibly last) silent film pianists, Neil Brand, will be providing an insightful talk on the world’s greatest comedy duo, joined by stills, clips and Neil’s very own piano accompaniment.

One of seven lunchtime performances celebrating young musicians with connections to the South West will be the Millfield Recital. The Music School at Millfield School is one of the largest in the UK, with world-class facilities and outstanding teaching. Their recital at the Budleigh Music Festival will feature the vocal and instrumental winners from the Millfield Musician of the Year competition, alongside a performance from one of the school’s many Chamber Ensembles.

Think you'll fancy a break from back-to-back performances? Stroll across to Colourscape, held on The Green, for a must-see immersive art installation that will awaken your senses. An audio-visual journey through a labyrinth of colour, light and sound, this spectacle is family-friendly, accessible and available for only two days, from 10th to 11th July, so make sure to snap up your tickets!

The Budleigh Music Festival team is carefully reviewing safety measures and are committed to producing the Festival in line with current COVID-19 rules and guidance as it is applicable at the time of the Festival in July. Concerts will be limited in capacity but there will be two performances for each of the main performances, meaning you will be treated to an intimate show, more opportunity to witness the artistry on offer and select your desired seat combinations. Full details of the Festival’s COVID-19 policy are available on the event website.

General tickets for this exceptional Festival are now on sale. Prospective concertgoers are advised to book early as there is limited availability and many of the performances are expected to sell out.
