Get ready to witness a tale of true grit and determination as two friends from Devon, Andy Purvis and Tim Cox, gear up to tackle the World’s Toughest Row Atlantic Challenge. This December, they’ll be embarking on a daring adventure, rowing a staggering 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean from La Gomera, Canary Islands, Spain (28°N 17°W) to Nelson’s Dockyard, English Harbour, Antigua and Barbuda (17°N 62°W).

Tim & Andy Sea Sports Southwest

Meet Oar Mighty Mates 2C, the dynamic duo with a heartfelt mission. Andy and Tim have joined forces to raise £70,000.00 for Dementia UK and Abigail's Footsteps who support families going through baby bereavement, two charities close to their hearts.

Their journey began when Andy, fuelled by determination, invited Tim to join him after the original team couldn't participate in 2023. Tim, already deeply committed in his heart, formally accepted the challenge. With a shared love for the ocean and outdoor pursuits, the two friends knew they were embarking on an adventure of a lifetime.

Tim Cox, a seasoned expert in navigation and safety training, brings over 12 years of experience from SeaSports Southwest in Teignmouth. His expertise and reputation in the ocean rowing community are unparalleled, attracting rowers and sailors from across the globe.

Andy Purvis, no stranger to extreme activities, brings his passion for adventure sports, including skiing, scuba diving, and marathon running. Having reached the start line in 2023, Andy is eager to conquer the World's Toughest Row in 2024.

Training is in full swing as Andy and Tim prepare for the physical and mental challenges that lie ahead. From rowing together every chance they get to adapting to life on an 8.6-meter rowing boat, equipped with basic amenities, they're leaving no stone unturned in their preparation.

During the gruelling journey, they'll battle sleep deprivation, hunger, salt sores  and physical extremes while navigating the vast ocean. With a rigorous schedule of rowing, eating, maintenance, and rest, every moment will be a test of their endurance and resilience.

But beyond the challenges, lies the promise of an unforgettable achievement. As they cross the finish line, Andy and Tim will join a select group of individuals who have conquered the Atlantic, forging memories that will last a lifetime.
