Christmas Lights Switch On

Sidmouth won't be dropping the ball this year when Sidmouth Town Council's Christmas lights are switched on as the town's own champion Cricket Team will be performing the honours. Gaining in popularity each year, the new lights proved a real hit last year and 2018 will be no exception seeing the town transformed with a colourful display covering more areas than ever before. Once again, the Town Council is providing the festive display with support from Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce.

The switch on this year will be performed by Sidmouth's very own Cricket Team. The 1st XI have recently won the Devon Premier League once again. This is the 7th time in 10 years that they have been Champions of Devon. The 3rd XI also won their league, while the 2nd XI finished runners up in their division. So all in all a very successful summer!

Chairman of Sidmouth Town Council, Councillor Ian McKenzie-Edwards commented "This year, it is entirely fitting that a group of our own local celebrities, our Champion Cricket team, receives some recognition after many years of successful tournaments."

The switch on of the Christmas lights will be at 5.30pm on Saturday 17 November and will be followed by the chance for local Primary School children to win a huge £100 toy voucher, once again generously donated by Gliddon's Toys. The Gliddons steam engine will also be on display and there will be live music from Vine and Dandy from 4.30pm. The 17 November promises to be a sparkling start to Christmas in Sidmouth.
