Village fair showcases local skills
High quality local art and craft will be on sale at the biggest-ever Upton Pyne Craft Fair which is to be held in the village hall and church on Saturday 17 November.
The fair takes place between 12 noon and 4pm, entry is free, and coffee, cakes, light lunches and afternoon teas with be available. The hall and church are in the centre of the village, a mile off the Crediton road just outside Exeter.
The fair is being organised by the Friends of Upton Pyne and proceeds will go towards the maintenance of the Grade 1-listed village church, which is being used as one of the two venues for the fair for the first time.
Friends member Linda Finday said: "We are delighted that this year, because of demand from stall holders, we are able to expand the craft fair into our historic village church. The event is going to be quite a lot bigger this year with many of our regular makers plus a number of new, very talented craftspeople.
"Many live in or around Upton Pyne and all are based within a few miles of the village. It is amazing that so many talented and skilful people live in such a small area.
"Each year the fair becomes more and more popular with exhibitors and visitors alike and it is definitely a fixture now on the local arts and crafts scene. We aim to combine good quality work with delicious catering in a village setting with unrivalled views of the local countryside."
Popular Exeter artist Sally Tuckey, who has family connections with the village, will be there together with potter Jane King and professional photographer John Howells. Other local craftspeople and artists will be selling a wide range of unique hand-made items including paintings, recycled wood, decorations, cards, jewellery, textiles, woodcrafts, needle felted birds and more.
The 2019 village calendar, featuring professional photographs of Upton Pyne's dogs, will be on sale and there will be a raffle of items donated by the participating stall holders.
