If you’re a traditional type who likes to go somewhere under your own steam, we have lots of different walking trails to choose from. Solitude seekers, wildlife enthusiasts and keen photographers can venture deep into the forest away from the hustle and bustle where you will discover breath-taking views, an abundance of wildlife and an inspiring variety of habitats. For visitors with limited mobility we have two Trampers, all-terrain mobility scooters, available to hire. For little legs we have our easy access trail with lots of play stops along the way and plenty of perfect den building opportunities. You can also take part in our latest children’s activity trail, The Highway Rat. Based on the popular book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Sheffler, join the Highway Rat and all the characters from the story as you head out on a journey into the forest. Optional activity packs can be purchased from the Ranger’s Office.

If you fancy getting around the forest a bit quicker, dig the bikes out from the shed and give our cycling trails a whirl. We have trails to suit all ages, abilities and levels of fitness. If you don’t have your own bike don’t worry, we have a dedicated hire shop, Forest Cycle Hire. So you’ve seen Haldon from the ground, how about seeing it from the tree tops? Become part of the Go Ape tribe and take part in this blood-pumping, action-packed adventure taking on tree top obstacles, designed to be the ultimate test of balance and nerve. After all that activity you are going to need somewhere to refuel. The Ridge Café is ready to welcome you; open every day their delicious range of cakes, breakfasts and lunches will hit the spot!  During the winter months the log burner provides a cosy, warm atmosphere and during the summer the ice cream shed is ready to cool visitors off with a range of local ice-creams and lollies. Want to bring a picnic? No problem, we have lots of areas suitable for picnicking.
