Get ready for a Mega May Half Term packed with over 25 exciting family-friendly events, attractions and adventures taking place across the county. Whether you're planning a family day out or a short break in Devon, you’ll find endless ways to keep little ones entertained – from magical woodland trails to animal encounters, hands-on workshops, thrilling rides and seaside fun.
South Devon is bursting with activity this Whitsun week. From 24 May to 2 June, the region is playing host to a wide range of exciting experiences for all ages and interests – many of which are budget-friendly or even free.

Here’s your guide to the top family events and days out across South Devon, Exeter and East Devon, and North Devon this May half term:
What’s on in South Devon
At Woodlands, the Gruffalo appears live on stage on 26 May. On 27 May, Titan the Robot returns with his unique mix of comedy and theatre. Then meet the Parasaurolophus on 28 May and mischievous Ritchie Raptor on 29 May. Enjoy a full day of family fun with rides, soft play, and animal encounters.
At Canonteign Falls, explore 90 acres of waterfalls, lakes and woodland trails. Hunt for dinosaurs and fern fairies, and on 27 May, book an unforgettable alpaca experience. Walk, feed and pose for photos with these gentle animals.
Picnic at the Park returns to River Dart Country Park on 1 June. With live music, dancing, charity stalls, a fun dog show and family activities, it’s a great day out in beautiful natural surroundings.
At Kents Cavern in Torquay, head back in time to the Stone Age. Take a cave tour and try your hand at primitive skills during their Survival School experience on 30 May.
At Paignton Zoo, discover over 2,000 animals across 80 acres of spacious grounds. A full day out awaits – perfect for nature-loving families, rain or shine.
At Haldon Forest Park, follow the Wallace and Gromit Forest Walkies trail or explore the Stick Man family trail. Take part in fun challenges, enjoy nature and learn about local wildlife.
At Becky Falls, join in outdoor games and get hands-on with animal encounters. Meet meerkats, ponies and tortoises, listen to Keeper Talks, and explore beautiful woodland trails.
Try a creative workshop at House of Marbles, where you can craft a glass heart, bird or vessel under expert guidance. A perfect rainy day activity.
The Spring Rails & Ales event runs from 23–26 May at South Devon Railway, featuring regular steam trains and a popular beer festival at Staverton. Don’t miss their Murder Mystery Evenings starting 16 May.
At Pennywell Farm from 17 May to 1 June, unleash your inner unicorn with themed activities, unicorn races and a chance to meet Merlin the Unicorn.
Relax at Blackpool Sands, a stunning South Devon beach. Hire a paddleboard or kayak, take a swim, or book the beachside sauna for a truly unique experience.
Visit the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth and explore zones including the Great Barrier Reef and the British Coasts. Meet the Ocean Discovery Rangers and enjoy daily shows and talks.
At The Box in Plymouth, from 27–30 May, children aged 4–11 can enjoy free clay workshops to make sea creatures of the future, inspired by artist Sonya Dyer. No booking needed.
What’s on in Exeter and East Devon
At the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) in Exeter, join creative workshops like Flappers and Fedoras on 27 May and an Art Deco printing session on 28 May. On 29 May, meet costumed historical characters around the museum.
Set sail with Stuart Line Cruises for a scenic trip along the historic Exeter Canal, or catch the English Riviera Airshow on 31 May and 1 June from the sea on a full-day cruise.
Pecorama in Beer celebrates Claudine’s 20th birthday with a Big Engine Gala on 30 and 31 May. All their magnificent engines will be out in full steam.
Wacky Week is back at World of Country Life from 26–30 May. Expect daily antics with Angus the Deer and loads of fun activities for the whole family.
At Crealy Theme Park, enjoy roller coasters, live shows and farmyard fun. Book between 24 May and 1 June and get a free return visit within 7 days.
Take part in a Civil War trail at Killerton, near Exeter. Follow the clues and decide who to support in 1645. On weekdays, meet an archaeologist uncovering secrets of the past.
At Devon Railway Centre, enjoy unlimited miniature train rides, indoor and outdoor play, model railways and crazy golf. On 15 June, dads go free with a full-paying child.
At The Donkey Sanctuary, follow a wildlife-themed Nature Trail around the grounds. Once completed, collect your prize from the gift shop. Just £5 per trail, running until 2 June.
Hop aboard the Dinosaur Tram Adventure at Seaton Tramway on 25 May. Enjoy stories, fossil digs, and dinosaur-themed activities at Colyton Station.
Explore Bicton Park Botanical Gardens with woodland trails, soft play, model railways, a countryside museum and more. On 14 and 15 June, enjoy vintage charm at the Steam & Vintage Weekend.
What’s on in North Devon
The Seaweed Festival returns to Clovelly on 27 May. Learn about the benefits of seaweed through tastings, stalls and talks, with live music and entertainment on the quay.
The Big Sheep offers rides, soft play and adorable baby animals to feed and meet. It’s the perfect mix of fun and farming this half term.
RHS Garden Rosemoor hosts The Great Garden Game-a-thon. Try super-sized lawn games, croquet and board games set among stunning gardens.
The Milky Way Adventure Park features coasters, slides, dodgems, a maze, soft play, and family-friendly activities for all ages.
Buzz over to Quince Honey Farm for beekeeping experiences, guided tours, soft play, gardens, and creative workshops.
