This year, an unforgettable new adventure is coming to South Devon. Deep beneath the surface at Kents Cavern in Torquay, visitors are invited to step even further back in time than ever before, to an age long before humans walked the Earth.
Running from April to November 2026, The Age of the Dinosaurs exhibition brings prehistoric giants into Britain’s oldest home, offering a unique opportunity to encounter dinosaurs in a setting that has witnessed over 500,000 years of history.
A Prehistoric Journey Like No Other
Kents Cavern is already renowned for its fascinating insight into early human life, but this exciting new exhibition expands the story dramatically. After exploring the caves on a guided tour, visitors can continue their journey through time and discover a world where dinosaurs ruled the planet.
Set against the dramatic backdrop of ancient rock formations, the exhibition features a stunning collection of replica dinosaur skeletons. These museum-quality reconstructions provide a rare and detailed glimpse into the lives of some of the most extraordinary creatures to have ever existed.
Meet the Dinosaurs
Among the highlights is the world’s first mounted reconstruction of Shri rapax, a remarkable and rare member of the raptor family. Created using original fossil material and the latest scientific research, this piece offers a truly unique look at a lesser-known dinosaur species.
Visitors will also come face-to-face with an impressive 10-metre-long Allosaurus named Achillies, as well as “Evie”, a juvenile Tyrannosaurus rex who is sure to capture the imagination of younger explorers.
Each skeleton has been crafted by Dinosaur Skeletons, a specialist studio based in nearby Cockington. Founded by professional paleoartist Alex Pritchard, the studio is internationally recognised for producing highly detailed and scientifically accurate reconstructions.
Alex shares:
“It’s so exciting to showcase my work in such a unique setting. Kents Cavern is an incredible prehistoric cave where history is brought to life every day. I’m thrilled that Dinosaur Skeletons can help expand the story being told here.”
Summer Events for the Whole Family
The adventure doesn’t stop with the exhibition. Throughout the summer, Kents Cavern will host a fantastic programme of family-friendly events and experiences, perfect for keeping curious minds entertained.
Highlights include:
- May Half Term Dino Explorers – hands-on activities designed for young adventurers
- Cinema in the Caves – atmospheric underground screenings of favourites like Jurassic Park, Tomb Raider and Jumanji
- How to Build a Dinosaur Discovery Evening – an engaging talk with Alex Pritchard, revealing the fascinating process behind creating these incredible skeletons
A Story Millions of Years in the Making
From the formation of ancient continents to the rise and fall of the dinosaurs, and the eventual arrival of early humans, Kents Cavern tells one of the most extraordinary stories on Earth.
General Manager Elliot Ling explains:
“Kents Cavern is unrivalled when it comes to telling stories about prehistory. Our rocks have witnessed unimaginable events across time. This exhibition adds another exciting chapter to our incredible story.”
