An Exhibition celebrating the Centenary of Votes for Women 1918-2018

Teign Heritage has been fortunate to be awarded a grant from the Women's Vote Centenary Grants Scheme to put on an exhibition about women's suffrage this summer.

The display tells the story of the struggle from 1832 to 1928, with specific information about events in Teignmouth and South Devon and the groups of women who campaigned for the vote at the turn of the 20th century.

We have also been able to add new research about local people and events, discovered this year as part of the centenary celebrations.

We are particularly proud of the photos in our archives of the Pilgrimage March, organised by the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies, from Lands End to Hyde Park, which came through Teignmouth on July 3rd 1913.

One photo shows the marchers and onlookers gathered at the Fountain in the Triangle at the Town Centre, (however the Fountain has since been moved to the Little Triangle, so the venue may not be immediately recognisable today).
