Elftet Jazz Orchestra

As 'Music lovers of all persuasions will have noticed that the BBC Proms are increasingly featuring jazz concerts as a regular feature that has attracted applause and interest from not only jazz fans but a far wider audience. This month sees Teignmouth Jazz and Blues, for the first time in partnership with the Teignmouth Pavilions, staging its own Jazz Prom with Jonny Mansfield's Elftet.

Elftet (http://www.jonnymansfield.com/bands-1/)is a contemporary orchestra led by composer and vibes player Jonny Mansfield that features eleven of the most exciting young musicians in the UK who collectively hold many prestigious awards and critical acclaim; R3's Alyn Shipton describes their music as 'Strikingly Original'. While Jazz Wise at the recent Love Supreme Festival wrote that Elftet 'captivated the large crowd with their intricate arrangements, energetic solos and general air of boundless enthusiasm.'

Featuring vocals from Ella Hohnen Ford and Dom Ingham, strings and a traditional jazz line up of horns, vibes and rhythm section the ensemble has the materials to provide a rich and complex sound that Jonny says draws on many influences from composers Vince Mendoza, Marius Neset and Ravel; songwriters Norah Jones and James Taylor. Our personal view is that there are shades of Ellington and Zappa here as well!

In short this is a unique concert (the only South West venue in their UK tour) that anyone appreciative of good music will find exciting, entertaining and sometimes challenging.
