This exhibition focuses on conflict on and under the water during the Great War, telling the story of wrecks along our coast, specifically in Devon and Cornwall.
The great variety of incidents often resulting in lives lost, range from severe enemy attacks, to misfortunes caused by bad weather and communication. Among the profiles events which took place in proximity of Devon, there are accounts of a torpedoed hospital ship, the survivors of which found refuge in Devon, as well as the Peronne. This was a French cable layer torpedoed in 1917 and now laying in 34m of water 5 miles South East of Berry Head. There is a gun taken from the wreck on display in the Sea Gallery.
