WELCOME TO BURGH ISLAND - ONE OF THE MOST MAGNIFICENT HOTELS IN DEVON

Welcome to Burgh Island Hotel. A spectacularly iconic art deco landmark on its own tidal island, surrounded by golden beaches and silver seas. Originally built in 1929, extended in 1932 and now restored to its ’30s glamour. Step back in time and tread in the footsteps of legendary guests who, once they set foot on the island, never wanted to leave…

Nestled on an island off the rugged Devonshire coast, 15 miles from Dartmoor National Park and the river Dart, Burgh Island is one of the best hotels in Devon. With a range of boutique rooms – each with free wi-fi and a private bathroom – a stay at our luxury hotel is a truly unforgettable experience. Surrounded on all sides by sea views, our unique island location offers stunning amenities, an award-winning restaurant and unparalleled art deco hotel luxury with individually designed rooms. The perfect location for a coastal wedding setting, for parties by the sea or for delightful fine dining, Burgh Island is a luxury South Devon hotel like no other.

Burgh Island is widely regarded as one of the foremost places to see and experience Art Deco in Europe. Art Deco is an influential visual arts design style that takes its name from the important ‘Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes’ which took place in Paris in 1925. It became popular across the globe in the 1920s and 30s. Arts Decoratifs became more commonly referred to as Art Deco.

Since 1929, Burgh Island has been welcoming famous guests, who have enjoyed utter peace, space for themselves, time to think and a regular seat in the Palm Court. In homage to this rich history, the 25 rooms and suites bear the names of a visiting guest and is a nod to a bygone era. Take a digital detox! Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi is available to all guests who feel the need to keep in touch with the real world, but we challenge you to look up… us-time is what Burgh Island is about.

Black tie and evening dress are absolutely de rigueur for all guests in the Grand Ballroom looking to enjoy high-quality fine dining in Devon. If you prefer a less formal evening, you may prefer to dine in our Nettlefold restaurant. No matter where you dine at Burgh Island, you can be sure of fresh, local, and seasonal food, sourced here in Devon and skilfully prepared under the watchful eye of our experienced chefs.

Over the golden sandy causeway to Burgh Island, you’ll discover an inn with seven hundred years of history. There are few places better than The Pilchard Inn to sit and watch the tides ebb and flow while relaxing with a pint and savouring your favourite dish. The cosy, wood-beamed interior oozes history and atmosphere at every stone-flagged turn – come and discover it for yourself.

Since 2003, Burgh Island has been widely regarded as being one of the best eco-friendly hotels in the South Devon area and a pioneer in the green tourism movement. Reflected in the fact that since 2007 we have been holders of the Gold Award from the Green Apple Organisation for Conservation. Burgh Island has always been an early adopter of good environmental practice. Water saving, supporting organic produce, good waste management and energy-saving lighting are all expected as standard from sustainable hotels, but we like to go that bit further with our sustainable practices.
