Seaside Hotel in Hope Cove – Sea Views, Cream Teas & Classic Devon Charm
Stay Above the Harbour in Historic Hope Cove
Perched proudly between the villages of Inner and Outer Hope, The Cottage Hotel, www.hopecove.com is a character-filled seaside retreat with sweeping sea views, old-school hospitality, and a story to tell. Tucked just above the once-bustling fishing harbour of Hope Cove, it’s the perfect base for your South Devon coastal holiday.
Over 90 Years of Welcoming Guests to the Devon Coast
Built in 1896 and opened as a guest house in 1927, The Cottage Hotel has kept its warm, cottagey soul. Original brick fireplaces, cosy nooks, and even a cabin made from the wood of the Herzogin Cecilie (a legendary windjammer that met her fate just off the coast) add buckets of charm and maritime history.
Family-run since 1973 by the Ireland family, the hotel has lovingly evolved while keeping true to its roots, offering guests a genuine, traditional hotel experience that feels like stepping into a postcard from the past.
Coastal Comfort – 38 Quirky & Cosy Bedrooms with Sea Views
With 38 individually styled rooms, most offering panoramic sea views, this 3-star hotel combines comfort with a touch of seaside nostalgia. Whether you're here for a summer escape or a blustery winter break, you’ll find yourself sinking happily into the laid-back Devon rhythm.
Devon Cream Teas at Hope Cove – A Must-Do Experience
At The Cottage Hotel, cream tea isn’t just a snack—it’s a Devonshire rite of passage. Whether you’re lounging inside, sipping tea on the sunny terrace, or gazing out across the harbour from the bar, this is the kind of indulgence you came to the coast for.
Perfect for a lazy afternoon after beachcombing or coastal walks, it’s the kind of treat that demands to be savoured slowly—with seagulls overhead and the sea glinting below.
Want something a bit more indulgent? Our simple afternoon teas include:
