Whether you’re celebrating Mother’s Day with your mum or another mother-figure in your life, South Devon has a great range of events, attractions and things to do which will allow you spend some quality time with the special ladies in your life. From yummy lunches and exciting days out to traditional Devonshire cream teas, we’ve put together a list of just some of the wonderful Mother’s Day events which can be found across the region. 

Flower Workshop, Dunchideock, nr Exeter (17th March) 

If mum enjoys being hand-on and has a penchant for all things floral, why not spend the morning with her at a Mother’s Day Flower Workshop with the British Academy of Floral Art. This workshop takes place at Dunchideock near Exeter and it’s a great place to relax, learn a new skill and meet like-minded flower lovers.  

No prior experience is needed as this workshop is taught by expert tutors and provides you with everything you need, plus you get to take home your floral design at the end of the session. If you miss this event, then don’t worry – they’re also hosting an Easter workshop on 1st April.

Vincent Simone – Tango Passions, The Palace Theatre, Paignton (17th March) 

Why not treat the dancing queen in your life to a fabulous night out at the theatre?  

Argentine Tango King and Strictly Come Dancing legend, Vincent Simone, returns to the stage in 2023 with his brand-new show, Tango Passions, produced by Paul Irving of Strictly Theatre Co.  

Accompanied by world-class Argentine Tango specialists, let the original Italian stallion take you on a journey to Buenos Aires whilst you enjoy his dancing, tales and poetry about the history of the Argentine Tango.

Macramé Workshop, Denbury, nr Newton Abbot (17th March) 

Another blissfully crafty workshop you could accompany your mum to is a Macramé Workshop at Church Cottage in Denbury. Situated on the outskirts of Newton Abbot, this beginners class will not only be relaxing but it’ll teach you some wonderful new skills which you can practice at home.  

During the workshop you’ll be able to create a potholder which can be used for plants, utensils or pens, plus a braided necklace for yourself or to use as a gift.

Radio Ga Ga, Sandy Park, Exeter (17th March) 

If mum is simply gaga for Queen, then we might just have the perfect event for you! Sandy Park will play host to the ultimate celebration of one of the biggest bands to have ever graced the stage – Queen.  

With tickets from just £15 you can break free and dance the night away with that special lady of yours for two hours of magic, fun and showmanship.

Counterfeit Sixties Show, Barnfield Theatre, Exeter (17th March) 

Another funky event for your music-loving mum is the Counterfeit Sixties Show at the Barnfield Theatre in Exeter. Let your mum be transported back to the swinging sixties and bask in the nostalgia for the evening. 

Britain’s number one tribute show brings alive the music of this wonderful era, showcasing great bands such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who and plenty more!

Mums Go Free at Dartmoor Zoo, nr Plymouth (18th & 19th March) 

For the mum’s who are animal-mad, Dartmoor Zoo are offering free admission on Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th March.  

If you’re looking for a memorable day out rally the family for a fun-filled day at the zoo. Mesmerising big cats, mischievous monkeys, cute capybaras and impressive ostriches can be found whilst wondering around the Zoo.  

Stretching over 33-acres, Dartmoor Zoo has so much to offer whilst being surrounded by beautiful panoramic views of Dartmoor National Park. If you begin to feel peckish whilst venturing through the wild, why not treat yourself and mum to a piece of cake, or a light bite in their restaurant.

TINA LIVE – A Tribute to Tina Turner, Exmouth Pavilion, Exmouth (18th March) 

Powerful vocals, a live band, backing singers and fabulous professional dancers with electrifying dance routines makes, TINA LIVE, simply the best night out for mum! 

Hosted by Exmouth Pavilions, this live and energetic show will have your Tina Turner-loving mum singing her heart out all night long. You can expect to hear hits such as Proud Mary, River Deep Mountain High and Let’s Stay Together, just to name a few, sung by fantastic Tina Turner tribute Julie Nevada.

Mother’s Day Lunch at The Bedford Hotel, Tavistock (19th March) 

Enjoy a delicious Mother’s Day Lunch at The Bedford Hotel in the beautiful and historic town of Tavistock.  

Serving up only the finest seasonal and local produce, your meal will be prepared with love, care and presented with a certain flair, much like our wonderful mothers!  

Make the day of it and spend some time catching up with a tea, coffee or something a little stronger in the Bedford’s beautiful lounges, or if the sun is shining, take mum around the gardens or into town for a spot of shopping.

Mother’s Day Cream Tea Cruise, Stuart Line Cruises, Exmouth (19th March) 

Throughout the day Stuart Line Cruises are offering a wonderfully unique experience to treat our mums, grandmas, step-mums and aunties this Mother’s Day.  

Gather all the lovely ladies in your life, sail around the beautiful Exe Estuary with a cream tea in one hand and a glass of prosecco in the other – what better combination is there? 

Plenty of cream and lashings of jam will be offered with your scone. Plus, with a fully licensed bar on board serving local ales, artisanal gin and plenty of wine, mum will certainly feel treated! 

This cruise will run three times across the day starting at 11am and during each trip the skipper on board will relay live, informative and enjoyable commentary to ensure you get to see all that this beautiful river has to offer.

Treat Mum to a perfect Mother's Day treat, with a delicious and traditional three course Mother's Day Lunch at the Two Bridges Hotel in the heart of Dartmoor National Park.

Make a day of it and take a stroll on Dartmoor before or after lunch; the hotel is situated at Two Bridges which has plenty of great footpaths toward Princetown, Dartmeet and Wistman's Woods.
