The South Devon town of Newton Abbot is a bustling and lively market town, surrounded by countryside with the coast a short drive away. But it’s not just its amazing location and markets that make Newton Abbot such a great place to visit all year round, whether its spring, summer, autumn or winter, this busy town will be playing host to some incredible events.

To help you see which amazing events are being held this year, we’ve listed below what’s happening in Newton Abbot during 2019.

Markets

Every week Newton Abbot plays host to a fantastic range of markets. The Indoor Market and Food Hall is open Monday to Saturday from 9 – 4. There’s an Outside Market in Market Square and Courtenay Street on Wednesdays and Saturdays form 8 – 4 and Newton Abbot Produce Market in Courtenay Street every Friday from 9 – 3. Antiques Fairs at Newton Abbot Racecourse

On selected Saturdays throughout the year Newton Abbot Racecourse turns into an antiques lover paradise. Find a range of stalls for you to browse it’s the perfect place to hunt for hidden treasures. Find out more here.

Car Boot sales at Newton Abbot Racecourse

On selected Sundays throughout the year head to Newton Abbot Racecourse and hunt out some bargains, great vintage pieces and pre-loved items. Find out more here.

Petrof Piano Trio (Violin, Cello & Piano) Courtenay Centre

Hailing from the Czech Republic the Petrof Piano Trio is unmatched in its interpretation of works by the Bohemian masters. Find out more here.

Racing at Newton Abbot Racecourse

Enjoy all the fun of a day at the races this year at Newton Abbot Racecourse. Race meetings are held throughout the summer months. Find out more here.

Easter Saturday Fun Day

Lots of free Easter fun for children including Easter egg giveaway face painting and walkabout characters. Find out more here.

Band Concerts in Courtenay Park

Enjoy an assortment of concerts in Courtenay Park on selected Sundays, including Spectrum Music Concert wind band, SW Comms Bands, Bay Brass, Brixham Town Band and The Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service Concert Band. Find out more here.

Classic Car Motor Show

The two days of the year when the pedestriansed centre of Newton Abbot will be filled with vehicles! Take a trip down memory lane whilst enjoying some of the best shopping in the region! Find out more here.

Summer Nights Festivals

Summer nights is a festival of street food on three summer nights in Newton Abbot that features locally produced dishes and world cuisine. The food stalls are from Courtenay St. to The Clock Tower and there is live music and entertainment on all three nights. Find out more here.

23rd June

Dartmoor Classic

The race is held every year, and competitors can choose between a 35, 67 and 107 mile course. The race starts and finishes at Newton Abbot Racecourse. Find out more here.

8th – 13th July

Newton Abbot Carnival Week

The weeklong carnival includes a number of events from a Quiz Night, Childrens' games evening, Duck Race, Tractor Pull and a Fun Run so there’s something to appeal to everyone. The carnival procession will leave Courtenay Park on Saturday 13th July. Find out more here.

7th September

Autumn Fayre

Enjoy local craft stalls, live music, face painting, town centre games, balloon modelling and much more at this autumn fayre. Find out more here.

14th September

Town Criers Competition

Town Criers from far and wide come and compete in this annual competition. Find out more about the event here.

10th November

Remembrance Sunday Service

Procession through the town centre, followed by a service held at the War Memorial. Find out more here.

23rd November

Christmas Lights Switch On

The towns Christmas lights switch on event at 5.30. There will also be street entertainment, live music and Father Christmas. Find out more here.

4th December

Victorian Evening

Victorian Evening charity event including street entertainment, charity stalls in Market Square and a local choir. Find out more here.

11th December

Lantern Parade and Christmas Street Fayre

Lantern Parade, street food, live music, street entertainment, Christmas street fayre and light night shopping. Procession of local primary school pupils with handmade lanterns. Find out more here.

18th December

Mayors Carol Service and Christmas Street Fayre

Enjoy a festive carol service along with late night shopping and Christmas street fayre in Newton Abbot town centre. Find out more here.
