The South Devon town of Newton Abbot is a bustling historic market town, you’ll find the coast is a short drive away and the town is surrounded by spectacular countryside. But it’s not just its amazing location and markets that make Newton Abbot such a great place to visit all year round, whether its spring, summer, autumn or winter, this busy town plays host to some incredible events too.

To help you find out which amazing events are being held this year, we’ve listed below what’s happening in Newton Abbot and in the surrounding villages during 2020.

All Year

Markets

Throughout the week there’s a fantastic range of markets which take place in the centre of town. The Indoor Market and Food Hall is open Monday to Saturday from 9 – 4. There’s an Outside Market in Market Square and Courtenay Street on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 – 4 and Newton Abbot Produce Market in Courtenay Street every Friday from 9 – 3. Racing at Newton Abbot Racecourse

From April to October Newton Abbot Racecourse comes alive with 18 thrilling race days. These summer jump fixtures are held on week days, evenings and weekend dates ensuring there’s a race date which will appeal to all. Discover more here.

Selected Dates

Band Concerts in Courtenay Park (Various dates throughout the year)

Enjoy an assortment of concerts in Courtenay Park bandstand on selected Sundays, 14th June, 5th July, 12th July, 9th August and the 13th September. Find out more here.

Town Criers Competition (5th September)

Town Criers from far and wide compete in this annual competition. Head to the town centre and hear their cries before the winner is announced. Find out more about the event here.

Autumn Fayre (12th September)

Enjoy local craft stalls, live music, face painting, town centre games, balloon modelling and much more at this autumn fayre. Find out more here.

Abbfest (18th - 20th September)

This three day beer, food and music festival raises money for local charities, organisations and good causes, as well as being great fun. Abbfest takes place a short drive from Newton Abbot centre. Find out more here.

Remembrance Sunday Service (8th November)

On Remembrance Sunday there will be a procession through the town centre, followed by a service held at the War Memorial at Devon Square. Find out more here.

Christmas Light Switch On (21st November)

The towns Christmas lights switch on marks the start of the towns Christmas celebrations. There will also be street entertainment, live music and Father Christmas. Find out more here.

Victorian Evening (2nd December)

Newton Abbot’s Victorian Evening charity event includes street entertainment, charity stalls in Market Square and a local choir. Find out more here.

Lantern Parade & Christmas Street Fayre (9th December)

Keeping Newton Abbot in the festive mood is the annual Lantern Parade, a procession of local primary school pupils with handmade lanterns. There will also be street food, live music, street entertainment, Christmas street fayre and late night shopping. Find out more here.

Mayors Carol Services & Christmas Street Fayre (16th December)

Rounding off the towns festive celebrations is the Mayors festive carol service along with late night shopping and Christmas street fayre in Newton Abbot town centre. Find out more here.
