Vintage shops in Devon

Whether you’re looking for a personal style that’s more unique, hoping to find clothing that are more affordable or you’re trying to shop more sustainably, there’s plenty of reasons to buy vintage or second-hand clothing. Luckily, if you live in or are visiting South Devon, there’s lots of great vintage shops dotted across the region. Read on to discover our top picks.  

Revival, Totnes 

One of the longest running stores in Totnes, Revival is a real Aladdin’s cave of vintage treats. The shop is jam-packed from floor to ceiling with timeless goodies, from designer dresses and vintage Levi’s to American varsity clothing, there’s truly something for everyone here.  

The Real McCoy, Exeter 

The Real McCoy is perhaps Exeter’s most renowned Vintage store. Established in 1984, it currently stocks clothing and accessories from the 1880s to 1990s. The Real McCoys a is great for those frilly 1940s frocks and worn-in leather or canvas jackets, as well as workwear brands such as Carhartt and Dickies. You can find The Real McCoy in the McCoys Arcade on Exeter’s Fore Street with other great independent businesses.  

Sobey’s Vintage Clothing, Exeter 

Sobey’s has become somewhat of a high street name in the South West with shops located in Bristol, Bath, Cardiff and Exeter. Located in Gandy Street, Sobey’s is an independent, family-run business who specialise in vintage and reworked fashion. They stock a large variety of brands and styles for everyone regardless of taste or preference.  

The Vintage Trading Post, Ottery St Mary & Axminster 

The Vintage Trading Post is a one-stop shop for all you vintage needs! From antiques to homeware, they have it all – including clothing, of course! Boasting over 100 independent traders, selling an array of vintage and retro items, we’re certain you’ll find whatever you’re looking for here. The Vintage Trading Post have two centres in East Devon, the first can be found in the historic town of Ottery St Mary and the second is just a short drive away in Tytherleigh, near Axminster.  

The Loft, Plymouth 

Whilst The Loft has been circulating Devon and Cornwall as a pop-up shop for a little while, they opened their first store recently on the Barbican in Plymouth. Stocking vintage fashion from the eighties and nineties, head here if you’re looking for cosy sweatshirts, graphic tees and colourful vintage trainers.  

VDP Vintage, Torquay 

Located in the English Riviera town of Torquay, VPD Vintage specialise in vintage fashion, mid-century furniture, art and much more. If you’re after beautiful, elegant women’s wear, such as dresses, handbags or jewellery, VDP Vintage is the place to go! 

Butterworth’s Vintage Co, Totnes 

Specialising in vintage menswear, workwear and military items is Butterworth’s Vintage Co. They first set up shop in Bristol before heading to France and finally settling down in the wholesome town of Totnes in 2019. They sell an array of men’s clothing such as Levi’s jeans, leather bomber jackets and thick plaid woollen shirts.  

Parade, Exeter 

Conveniently located in Exeter City Centre, you can find Parade near Exeter Central train station. They specialise in apparel from the eighties, nineties and Y2K, so if you’re looking for flannel shirts, tie dye tees or colourful fleeces, make this your first port of call! 

Quirky Bird Vintage & Retro Fashion, Ashburton 

Quirky Bird Vintage & Retro Fashion are a small, independent store showcasing an eclectic mix of retro, vintage and designer clothing for all. They’re located on the edge of Dartmoor in the picturesque town of Ashburton and their colourful shop front is tough to miss! Quirky Bird pride themselves on being just that… quirky! If you love bold colours and styles that pack a punch, you’ll certainly find something to love at this store.  

Days of Grace Vintage, Budleigh Salterton 

Perhaps you’re after a beautiful, elegant wedding dress or something to wear for a special occasion. If so, head to Days of Grace Vintage in the seaside town of Budleigh Salterton. They stock unique Edwardian lace bridal wear and Victorian gowns as well as charming, classic prom dresses from the fifties and sixties.  

My Ex Wardrobe, Exeter 

Situated in Gandy Street in Exeter, My Ex Wardrobe are a dress agency who sell pre-loved, high end and luxury branded items. They opened in 2014 and feature clothing from designers such as Burberry, Giorgio Armani, Prada and Vivienne Westwood. If you’re looking to start or build up your designer collection, but don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for new items, a trip to My Ex Wardrobe would be a good place to start.  

As well as having plenty of vintage shops, South Devon has some great charity shops which often stock an excellent selection of vintage items. Not only will you be able find something for a fraction of the price, you’ll be supporting a charity who help those in need.
