'Heart of Nature' - Botanical Art Exhibition

The Birdwood House Gallery is the setting for a solo exhibition of botanical art by Ann Saward.

Ann was a successful full time studio potter for 35 years before realising her dream of becoming a botanical artist which she did in 2019.
2022 saw Ann being accepted by the RHS to exhibit with them.
Ann chose Sarracenias, carnivorous plants of North America, as her theme for a series of six large watercolours which were exhibited at the RHS Botanical Art & Photography Show held at the Saatchi Gallery - London in June/July 2024.

"I love the precision required for recording the detail of a plant within a botanical watercolour painting. Inspiration is around me on a daily basis, from hedgerow wild flowers, and waste ground 'weeds', to plants in my south Devon garden and everything in between!

Architectural and unusual plants tend to draw me in with their special challenges. There is real joy in watching a plant gradually take form and 'grow' on the paper in front of me, despite the very many hours of painstaking work involved. 

There is a constant sense of wonder at the beauty, sheer diversity and ingenuity of the natural world around us."
