Tribal Summer at Kents Cavern invites families to step back in time and experience life through the eyes of four tribes: Mammoth, Bear, Hyena, and Elk.

Guided Cave Tours
Kents Cavern is one of the most important Stone Age sites in Europe and one of Britain's best showcaves! On your visit you'll go back to a time when the cave was home to ancient humans, sheltering from extreme weather, making fires, shaping tools and hunting Ice Age animals. As you walk through the extensive labyrinth of caverns, you'll be surrounded by 400 million-year-old rocks and spectacular stalagmites and stalactites.

Join your tribe
Which Tribe will you join? Each has their own set of characteristics so make your choice and head to our free facepainting station to get your tribal colours!

Mammoth: Gentle, wise and strong

Hyena: Loyal, agile and understanding

Elk: Adventourous, majestic and proud

Bear: Brave, protective and fierce

Not sure which Tribe to choose? Take our personality quiz and get your results!

Woodland Trail
Let your cave adventure take you outdoors where you can spot Ice Age animals and complete our Woodland Trail activities! Or if you're looking for something a bit more hands-on, try out our shelter building activity.

survival school
Witness authentic Stone Age survival skills in action with our exciting and educational demonstrations which take place each week on our front lawn (weather permitting).

Survival School Ltd is the internationally renowned centre dedicated to teaching Bushcraft, Survival and Wilderness Living Skills.

Other activities
There's plenty more to do at Kents Caven to keep the whole family entertained!

We will have Tribal themed craft activities taking place each day, as well as free gemstone digging (plus you can keep whatever treasure you find!).

In our Stone Age Zone you can try your hand at cutting antlers with flint knives or making holes in stones with a bow drill.

Discover even more about the fascinating archaeology and geology of Kents Cavern and local area with our information panels and take a look at some of our artefact displays.

Don't forget to pick up a Kents Cavern guidebook to take away with you!

Meet Cavog the caveman
Don't miss out on your chance to meet our cheeky caveman mascot, Cavog! He will be making appearances every day and he loves a good selfie, so cameras at the ready!
