Bach - Four Contrapuncti from The Art of Fugue
Four Folk Songs arranged by The Danish String Quartet
Borodin - String Quartet no 2
In The Art of Fugue, Bach features a series of fugues, known as Contrapuncti. We are going to play the first 4 pieces. All developed from a single theme they show Bach's amazing creativity.
Followed by what is a new adventure for us…. four folk songs arranged by the Danish String Quartet from their album Keel Road.
Borodin, a lecturer in chemistry, composed music in his spare time. It is thought that his second String Quartet was a gift for his wife Ekaterina, to show his great love and devotion, on the occasion of their 20th wedding anniversary. Distinctly Russian in character, it is full of deeply expressive, song-like themes. The slow movement tune was famously used in the Broadway musical 'Kismet'.
The music will be informally introduced by the Quartet
