It’s almost that time of year; we’re dusting off the decorations, finding our best festive outfits and starting to plan our Christmas shopping lists! The seasonal period brings with it a fantastic selection of exciting events and South Devon is no different, especially when it comes to Christmas markets and fairs. The divine smell of mulled wine, a cheerful chorus of carol singers and the sight of twinkling lights, there’s no better place to make a start on that daunting list of presents! The Christmas markets in South Devon and festive fairs offer up a magical experience for the whole family to enjoy, have a read through what’s on this year below. Christmas Markets

Exeter Christmas Market on Cathedral Green, Exeter (15th November – 16th December)

Make your way to Cathedral Green in Exeter for a wonderful selection of local and continental independent traders selling various gifts, crafts and seasonal treats. Open from 10am to 7pm on Mondays to Wednesdays, 10am to 9pm on Thursdays to Saturdays and 11am to 5pm on Sundays. Plymouth Christmas Market, Plymouth (29th November – 16th December)

Log cabin trading stalls and a magical wonderland will descend upon the Piazza in Plymouth in the lead up to Christmas. Mondays to Wednesdays opening times are 10am until 6pm, Thursdays are 11am until 9pm, Fridays are 11am until 6pm, Saturdays are 10am until 6pm and Sunday opening hours are from 10am until 5pm. Christmas Street Fayre & Lights Switch On, Bovey Tracey (1st December)

Join the town of Bovey Tracey as they celebrate Christmas with a fantastic market, showcasing beautiful handcrafted gifts, yummy festive food and lots of entertainment. Totnes Christmas Late Night Shopping, Totnes (4th, 11th & 18th December)

On three Tuesdays in the run up to Christmas, the streets of Totnes will be adorned with twinkling lights and lined with stalls. The Civic Square will also have a market and there will be plenty of street entertainment as well as sumptuous food on offer. Lantern Parade & Christmas Street Fayre, Newton Abbot (12th December)

Enjoy the magic of Christmas at Newton Abbot's street fayre, offering plenty of entertainment and festive market stalls to grab some pretty gifts for your loved ones. A lantern parade will also take place with participants from local primary schools showing off their handmade lanterns. The parade will take place at 6:30pm with late night shopping until 8:30pm. Mayors Carol Service & Christmas Street Fayre, Newton Abbot (19th December)

Delicious street food, live entertainment and eclectic market stalls throughout the town of Newton Abbot will really help you get into the festive spirit. Join the Mayor and councillors around the Market Square Christmas tree at 7pm for a beautiful carol service. Christmas Fairs

Michaelmas Fair, Powderham Castle, Near Exeter (8th November)

Head to the grand Powderham Castle in Kenton near Exeter from 10am to 3pm for their annual Christmas Fair in aid of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity. Find more information about Michaelmas Fair here.

Advent Fair & Craft Market, Dartington (17th November)

Held at South Devon Steiner School in Dartington, this market and fair offers a fun day out for all the family with plenty of activities. 10am until 4pm, entrance is £1 for adults and children go free. For further details about the Advent Fair and Craft Market please click here.

Christmas Fair in aid of Stoke Fleming School, Dartmouth (24th November)

Organised by Stoke Fleming Charitable Ladies and the Friends of Stoke Fleming Primary School, this school fair taking place near Dartmouth will be raising funds for Stoke Fleming School from 10am until 12pm. Advent Fair in aid of Children’s Hospice South West, Dartmouth (24th November)

Held in The Old Market in Dartmouth, stalls will be offering unique gifts, produce and more. Raising money for Children’s Hospice South West, from 10am until 3pm. Find out more about the Advent Fair in aid of Children’s Hospice South West here.

Christmas Fair, The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth (24th & 25th November)

Taking place at The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth, this Christmas fair will offer the chance to purchase some beautiful gifts and edible treats! Entry is £2, under 12s go FREE. Additional information about the Christmas Fair can be found here.

Christmas Craft & Gift Fayre, Teignmouth (24th & 25th November)

Make your way to the Pavilions in Teignmouth for their gift and craft fare with 40 stalls to pick up some wonderful presents. Open 10am until pm on the Saturday and 10am until 3pm on the Sunday. More details about the Christmas Craft and Gift Fayre can be found here.

Christmas Market, Livermead Cliff Hotel, Torquay (24th & 25th November)

From 1am until 4pm over two days, Livermead Cliff Hotel in Torquay will open its doors for their spectacular market. Further details about the Christmas Market are available here.

Etsy Made Local Exeter, Exeter (1st & 2nd December)

Pop along to the first ever Etsy Made Local market taking place at Exeter Phoenix from 11am until 5pm on the Saturday and 11am until 3pm on the Sunday. Find out more about Etsy Made Local Exeter here.

Harbertonford’s Craft & Art Christmas Fair, Totnes (2nd December)

Cadeleigh Christmas Craft Fair (7th – 9th December)

Gold, Frankincense & Mare, Coombe Park, Near Totnes (9th December)

If you’re not visiting South Devon around any of the Christmas markets or fairs, don’t panic as we have plenty of other great places for you to get some Christmas shopping done!

Princesshay Shopping Centre, Exeter

In the heart of Exeter, Princesshay Shopping Centre houses lots of well known shops and restaurants for you to choose from. The wider Exeter high street also boats lots of beautiful independent boutiques too.

Fleet Walk Shopping Centre, Torquay

If you’re staying on the English Riviera also known as Torbay, make sure to check out Fleet Walk Shopping Centre in Torquay. You’ll find a great range of shops to pick up those special presents.

Trago Mills, Newton Abbot

For a fun, family day out, Trago Mills in Newton Abbot has it all! Make a start on your Christmas shopping, you’ll find everything from decorations to clothing, homeware to sports equipment and they even have rides and food outlets!

The Devon Guild of Craftsmen, Bovey Tracey

If you’re after unique and beautifully handcrafted pieces for your friends and family, a trip to The Devon Guild of Craftsmen in Bovey Tracey is a must.

House of Marbles, Bovey Tracey

Keep the little ones entertained with marble runs and exhibits as you pick up some unusual gifts from the gift shop at the House of Marbles in Bovey Tracey.
