Family enjoy summer Guess Who Trail at The Donkey Sanctuary

Opening Times

Sorry, this event has passed

Do you know which of the sanctuary's adoption friends is most playful, has the fluffiest ears or is the biggest of the herd? This summer get to know the nine adoption donkeys in Sidmouth with this entertaining family trail that combines fun, exercise and brainpower.

There is a different adoption friend hiding behind the stable doors located around the sanctuary – see if you can guess which donkey is where, using the clues provided on the trail sheet. Don't worry if you can't guess straight away, just go to the location of each stable to solve the clue and reveal the mystery donkey. Using the donkey stickers provided, complete the trail sheet and WIN a prize. Just £3 per trail, including prize and certificate on completion.

As well as the adoption donkeys there are hundreds more cared for at the sanctuary just waiting to meet you, including the gentle giant Poitous and the adorable miniature donkeys. The scenic trails are at their very best at this time of year, making it a great time to stroll around the paddocks, through Hermitage Woods and even down to the sea. Little ones can burn off steam in the maze and outdoor play area too. Just make sure you've got appropriate footwear, and if you're venturing far – take replenishments!

The 'Donkeys Matter' garden created for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019 to celebrate the charity's 50th anniversary, will also be on display at the sanctuary this summer. It demonstrates the vital importance of donkeys in providing some of the world's poorest and most vulnerable communities with access to clean, fresh water. Learn more about their worldwide work and why donkeys are so special through fun, interactive displays in the new indoor attractions or join one of the daily tours, talks or demonstrations to discover more about the furry residents and how they are working to transform their lives.

Take sanctuary in the Taste of the West Gold award-winning restaurant, The Kitchen, where you can enjoy fresh, local, seasonal produce while soaking in the unparalleled coast and country views. Hearty breakfasts, luscious lunches and tempting treats are served daily from 9am to 5pm. And for unique donkey-design items and souvenirs to remember your visit by, head to the new Gift Shop.

The Donkey Sanctuary celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2019, after being founded as a charity in 1969 by Dr Elisabeth Svendsen MBE. It has many achievements to celebrate and a renewed vision for the future that will transform the welfare of donkeys and mules across the world.

Entry and parking at the sanctuary is FREE (donations welcome). Dogs on leads are welcome.
