Whiddon Autumn Festival 2024
18-22 September 2024
WORLD-CLASS VOCAL AND CHAMBER MUSIC IN THE HEART OF DEVON
Chagford - Drewsteignton - Throwleigh - Gidleigh - Moretonhampstead
----
Join us 18-22 September 2024 for the Whiddon Autumn Festival, one of Devon's freshest and most exciting cultural events.
Set in and around the picturesque Whiddon Parishes of north Dartmoor, WAF 2024 sees a vibrant programme of 13 events packed into 5 days across 5 villages, including choral performances, chamber music, art song, jazz, participation opportunities, events for children, and more..!
Ensemble-in-Residence Corvus Consort and WAF's very own Festival String Quartet are joined by a dazzling line-up of young artists, all curated by local-born Festival Director Freddie Crowley.
Our special guest artist for 2024 is the Solem Quartet, one of the most innovative and adventurous string quartets of its generation, who are joined by vocalist & multi-instrumentalist Alice Zawadzki.
This year's Festival Jazz Night headliner is award-winning pianist-composer Lukas DeRungs, joined by Corvus Consort in a one-night-only collaboration to perform his KOSMOS Suite, a staggering work for jazz ensemble and chamber choir.
Young star pianist & audience favourite Harry Baker returns to WAF for a fourth year running, alongside multiple-prize-winning singers Charlotte Bowden (2nd prize at 2024 International Handel Singing Competition) and Matthew McKinney (winner of the 2024 Kathleen Ferrier Award).
China-born, London-based composer Sun Keting is WAF's 2024 Composer-in-Residence, described by The Independent as "the Future Way to Go". She has written three new works specially for WAF, which will be premiered during the festival, including a song for the WAF Children's Choir as well as music for our young professional artists.
WAF is committed to inclusion and accessibility of our events, heavily subsidising all our ticket prices, and providing several free and "pay-what-you-feel" events. We offer free entry for U25s at all our principal concerts, £5 tickets for those aged 26-30, and discounts to those claiming Universal Credit or equivalent benefits.
