Burgh Island Hotel is an iconic Art Deco retreat set on its own tidal island off the coast of South Devon. Surrounded by sweeping golden beach and dramatic coastal scenery, the hotel offers a truly unique escape, accessible on foot at low tide or by its famous sea tractor when the tide is high.
Originally built in 1929, the hotel is a celebrated example of Art Deco design, carefully restored to reflect the glamour and elegance of the 1930s. Its interiors, architecture, and atmosphere evoke a bygone era, inviting guests to step back in time.
Steeped in history, the hotel has welcomed an array of notable guests over the decades and is famously linked to Agatha Christie, who found inspiration here for some of her most renowned novels. The sense of intrigue and storytelling remains part of the island's enduring charm.
Dining is central to the Burgh Island experience, from Black tie dining in the Grand Ballroom to traditional afternoon tea, served with coastal views and a sense of occasion. Afternoon tea and selected experiences are also open to non-resident guests, offering the opportunity to enjoy the island without an overnight stay. Guests can also visit the island's historic Pilchard Inn, a characterful seaside pub dating back to the 14th century, providing a relaxed contrast to the hotel's refined setting.
The island also hosts a calendar of special events, including immersive murder mystery weekends, themed dining, and seasonal celebrations. Many of these events are open to non-resident guests, creating unique opportunities to experience the island throughout the year.
Today, Burgh Island Hotel offers an immersive escape where coastal beauty, heritage, and hospitality come together—creating a destination that feels both timeless and unforgettable.
Room available to book from £300 based on bed & breakfast subject to availability and room type.
Afternoon tea is available to book at £55 per person. For more information, please visit our website or call the hotel on 01548 810 514.
