Join Scottish singer-songwriter, Emma Miller for her debut performance in Ashburton Arts as part of her 'I Want to Be the Anchor' UK tour.
You might have been captivated by Miller's cover of Oasis's The Masterplan in the latest series of Traitors UK (which saw the song 'Shazamed' 2750 times in one week) or perhaps discovered her viral version of Nothing Compares 2 U or Wild Mountain Thyme which have a collective view count of over half a million views, but undoubtedly it's her own beautifully crafted and confessional songwriting that will make you stick around for more.
Long touted for her spellbinding voice and poignant lyricism, Emma's music is relational, real and deeply layered. Originally from just above the Highlands in north east Scotland, there's a subtle Celtic inflection in her tone and delivery that only adds to the depth of her songwriting. Moving to London in her mid 20's she threw herself into the music scene there, graduating with a first class degree in Songwriting and developing an honesty and vulnerability to her writing and command of her voice that stands alone.
Her latest album took her 4000 miles from Edinburgh to the rural Tennessee countryside where she spent 3 weeks working with producer Nick Bullock. Cut off from Wifi and phone service, Miller embraced the experience whole heartedly - working with some of Nashville's finest musicians, a string quartet and delivering some of her most vulnerable performances, captured live behind the baby grand piano. The result is a mature and deeply personal body of work realised in 'I Want to Be the Anchor'.
With support across BBC Radio, rave reviews with the likes of cult music blog Mystic Sons awarding the record 8/10, don't miss the chance to see this intimate headline show.
