About

Overlooking the inner harbour, at the heart of Dartmouth, a visit to the Royal Castle is an unforgettable experience.  We have 24 individually decorated bedrooms and you can dine in the river-view restaurant or enjoy the atmospheric downstairs bars.

Inviting You

500 years of history surround this ancient coaching inn, which has been entertaining guests since Drake first sailed. Combined with stylish decor, original antiques and quirky features, the award winning Royal Castle Hotel presents a truly unique place to stay and welcomes families and dogs. Cobbled streets, intriguing shops and the River Dart are all on the doorstep.

Unique Bedrooms

Positioned around the Elizabethan inner courtyard, 24 en-suite bedrooms all have individual charm and great character. Every modern hotel comfort is provided plus lots of unexpected extras, including antique features, four poster beds, spa baths and the luxury of complimentary valet parking. All rooms come with fluffy towels, crisp linen, luxury bathrobes, quality toiletries, complimentary wi-fi, flat screen TV’s, telephones, mineral water and tea and coffee making facilities.  Rooms are available as doubles, twins and family rooms and some rooms are dog friendly.  We offer an award winning breakfast in our river view restaurant.  We strive for great attention to detail and excellent customer service at all times.

Excellent Food & Vintage Cellars

We believe in using fresh, local produce from South Devon.  The Grill Room, our AA rosette, award winning restaurant offers fine cuisine in a relaxed environment with fantastic river views.  Our two characterful bars, both with cosy corners and open fires in winter, serve a great bar menu, the catch of the day and daily specials until 10pm. Choice of menu is extensive with seasonal specialities including: local crab and spit roasts prepared over open fires. Our vintage cellars are well stocked with world-renowned and West Country brands.
