That time of year is almost upon us, meaning that lots of festive events are on their way. Magical train rides, illuminated trails and Christmas shows are just a few of the incredible things to look forward to. Discover the Christmas events taking place in South Devon this year below.

Follow the Glow, Sidmouth (5th November - 6th January)

Make your way to the Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth this festive season to enjoy their Christmas trail. Discover tales about donkeys from all around the world and receive a Christmas gift upon completion.

Tavistock Christmas Light Switch-On, Tavistock (20th November)

Starting at 4pm, head to Tavistock for a fantastic evening of entertainment with street food, music and comedy. The lights will be switched on at 5:45pm with shops open late and a Festive Love Local Market on the Butchers Hall so you can get some Christmas shopping done.

Train of Lights, Paignton (24th November - 30th December)

Back again for 2021, the popular Train of Lights at Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company is a magical experience not to be missed. Journey from Paignton to Kingswear in the adorned carriages and view enchanting feature displays along the way. 

Christmas Trail at Killerton, Exeter (26th November - 2nd January)

A beautiful illuminated trail around the gardens of the National Trust property Killerton near Exeter. Sparkling lights and festive displays bring the grounds to live with a seasonal musical soundtrack to enjoy.

Lanterns, Lights & ‘luminations, Brixham (27th November)

Visitors to Lanterns, Lights and ‘luminations can look forward to a dazzling lantern parade along with a street market, live music and lots of great entertainment. There’s even a beautiful firework display!

Christmas at the Castle, Exeter (29th November - 31st December)

Powderham Castle welcome back the popular event Christmas at the Castle this year. Explore the Secret Garden, their magical Christmas market complete with gifts and festive refreshments as well as a grotto!

A Christmas Carol, Exeter (1st December - 1st January)

Dickens’ Christmas classic is brought to life by a Le Navet Bete and Barbican Theatre production at Exeter Northcott Theatre. Grab the whole family for an afternoon or evening of laughter and festive cheer.

Contemporary Choir Christmas Concert, Exeter (4th December)

Join the University of Exeter Contemporary Choir at Sidwell Street Methodist Church for a night of carols and other music. There will also be homemade treats and a raffle in aid of their Charity of the year.

Chapterhouse Presents Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol at Exmouth Pavilion, Exmouth (5th December)

The critically acclaimed Chapterhouse Theatre Company present A Christmas Carol at Exmouth Pavilion. A traditional production with period costumes, dance, song and an original musical score.

Santa Seaside Run, Brixham (5th December)

Hosted by Brixham Harriers in conjunction with Brixham Soroptomists, the Seaside Santa Run begins at Brixham Harbour. Join in with the run or pop along to spectate, either way you’re sure for a festive day out.

The Christmas Mouse, Plymouth (8th - 24th December)

Suitable for little ones under 5, The Christmas Mouse is a beautiful winter show presented by the Stiltskin Theatre Company at The Soapbox Theatre. It tells the story of an adorable mouse looking for somewhere warm and snuggly before Christmas Day.

Christmas Zoo Nights, Dartmoor (10th - 23rd December)

Taking place on selected days in December, Christmas Zoo Nights transforms Dartmoor Zoo into a magical winter wonderland. Explore the illuminated enchanting trail around the zoo and celebrate the festive season.

Christmas Wonderland Illuminations, Torquay (18th - 31st December)

See Babbacombe Model Village like you never have before with the return of their festive event, Christmas Wonderland Illuminations. Explore the miniature village with extra sparkles and lots of seasonal scenes.

Festive Special, Exmouth (24th December - 1st January)

Climb aboard Stuart Line Cruises for a Christmas event on the River Exe. Cruise the Exe Estuary on their festively decorated vessels and enjoy a mince pie and mulled wine on the journey as you listen to live commentary from the skipper.
